Alessandro Masi

Critico e storico d'arte

Segretario Generale della Società "Dante Alighieri"

Alessandro Masi was born in Marino (Rome) on 12th July 1960. After obtaining a degree in Arts and Humanities, he won a contest to be admitted to the School of Medieval and Modern Art at “La Sapienza” University in Rome.
Between 1986 and 1988, he taught Modern and Contemporary Art History at the “Restoration Institute” (Rome) directed by Gian Luigi Colalucci.
From 1989 to 1990, he was an external overseer of the Educational Section of the National Gallery of Modern Art (Rome) for various exhibitions including Vincent Van Gogh, Giacomo Balla, Pietro Consagra and the Italian 1900s Collection.
He also collaborated with Seat in publishing a series of monographs of contemporary artists (see “Georges Rouault”, “Amedeo Modigliani”, “Alberto Bragaglia”, “Giacomo Balla” and “Wasilij Kandinsky”).
An art historian and critic, flagged by Bolaffi-Arte, he has collaborated with several newspapers and publications, including “Flah Art” and “Next”.
His main research interests are the strictly “social and political” aspects of 20th century Italian art and art literature, as shown by the exhibitions he has organised in many Italian cities.
Several years of research, undertaken in the Central State Archive and Giuseppe Bottai Historical Archive (under the supervision of historian Renzo De Felice), allowed him to write two volumes on the political-artistic history of the Fascist era: “Art for the State” and “Giuseppe Bottai. The politics of art”.
He was named Regent of the Irpino Museum of Vallata in 1997.
He has been the Secretary-General of the “Dante Alighieri” Association (Central Headquarters, Rome) since 1999.
